Last week marked an important milestone for the "MATISSE project : the first review meeting in Brussels". The reviewers approved all the work and deliverables completed so far! This achievement reflects the dedication, collaboration, and expertise of every partner involved. Of course, success brings new challenges. The reviewers also made it clear that our start has raised expectations  and now it’s time to step up even further. Over the next year, we’ll continue building on our solid foundation.

Brussels Matisse Review Meeting

Day 1 – September 23: Hackathon & Networking

The first day was dedicated to an immersive hackathon, led by Andrey Sadovykh (SOFT). After welcome addresses from Olga Hendel (MDU), Alessio Bucaioni (MDU), and local host Luis Miguel (ISEP), teams formed and began solution development. The day culminated in team presentations and a results showcase, followed by a social cellar visit and dinner, fostering team cohesion.

Day 2 – September 24: Technical Deep Dive & Planning

Day two focused on core project deliverables and forward planning. Key sessions included:

Architecture & Framework: Presentations on Deliverable D1.2 (MATISSE Architecture) by Andrey Sadovykh (SOFT) and D2.2 (DT Engineering Framework) by Romina Eramo and Vittoriano Muttillo (UNITE).

Use Case Scenarios: A moderated session led by Alessio Bucaioni (MDU) where Use Case Partners (UCPs) presented their scenarios for D1.3.

WP3 Kick-off: The WP3 leader outlined the scope, vision, and plans for the upcoming Deliverable D3.1.

The day concluded with an engaging "Pint of Science" session, facilitating informal knowledge exchange.

Day 3 – September 25: Strategy & Administration

The final day was dedicated to project governance and strategy:

Review & Planning: Work Package leaders led a session to plan for an upcoming project review.

Dissemination & Exploitation: A dedicated session was held by CW, RISE, and MDU to strategize on spreading project results and maximizing impact.

Project Management: Olga Hendel (MDU) provided essential administrative and management updates before delivering closing remarks.

The meeting successfully balanced productive work sessions with valuable networking opportunities, ensuring all partners left with a clear, unified vision for the project's next phase.

From September 23 to 25, 2025, over 50 consortium members gathered in Porto for the MATISSE Meeting. 
The meeting was hosted at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), in Building E, with sessions held on the first floor.
Over the course of two and a half days, this internal event brought together all project partners to discuss progress, share insights, and align on next steps for the MATISSE project. It was also an opportunity to reconnect in person, explore synergies, and strengthen collaboration across work packages.

MATISSE 1st Open Door Event 

The main objective of the plenary was to 

evaluate the progress of ongoing Work Packages, coordinate upcoming tasks, and foster strong collaboration across partners.

The event featured an intensive agenda with strategic workshops, technical deep-dives, and interactive sessions designed to 

strengthen the MATISSE framework for model-based engineering of trusted Digital Twins.

Three teams were awarded prizes after voting based on innovation, feasibility, and potential impact. The day concluded with a joint dinner where participants celebrated the Hackathon winners in a relaxed, social setting.

Day 2: First Open Door Event and Technical Workshops

The second day welcomed over 20 external stakeholders for the First MATISSE Open Door Event; a dedicated morning for knowledge exchange and networking.

An educational workshop led by Alessio Bucaioni (MDU) and Luca Berardinelli (JKU), introducing key concepts in 

Digital Twin Engineering and Model-Driven Engineering (MDE).

A presentation of the D2.1 Deliverable by Luca Berardinelli and Hugo Bruneliere (IMT Atlantique), unveiling

 foundational insights on traceability, fidelity, and federation in Digital Twin systems.

, where external and internal participants shared their insights to guide the next steps of our research and publications.

In the afternoon, partners participated in a kick-off 

workshop for upcoming deliverables D1.2 and D2.2

 led by Alexandra Espinosa Hortelano (MDU) and Gabriela Lucas (CleanWatts).

Day 3: Work Package Presentations and Forward Planning

The final day focused on strategic alignment and coordination:

An overview of dissemination and exploitation activities

Updates on administrative and management matters

A forward-looking session planning the project’s next major milestones

The meeting concluded with renewed momentum and alignment, setting the stage for an ambitious and productive phase ahead.

The Rome plenary was not just a technical milestone; it was a celebration of collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose. With the first Hackathon and Open Door Event now behind us, the MATISSE community looks ahead with confidence to its next plenary meeting in September 2025, and to the ongoing journey toward trustworthy and interoperable Digital Twin solutions.

From March 25 to 27, 2025, over 50 consortium members gathered in Rome for the MATISSE Plenary Meeting. Held at Industrie Fluviali – Ecosistema Cultura, this three-day event marked a significant milestone for the project, combining technical progress with collaboration and community building.
